A Bedlington school has been recognised for its excellent work with parents over the past two years, including creating a focus group.

Bedlingtonshire Community High School has achieved the 'Leading Parent Partnership Award' for their excellent work in engaging parents.

The school has worked hard over a two year period to develop the relationship and experience that parents have when contacting the school. A lot of work has been done to improve the quality of parents' evenings and letters the parents receive as well as improving communication, introducing parent newsletters and information about what their child is studying each half term in every subject.

Primary school self raising for minibus

Andrew Miller and Lynn McIntosh with fundraisers from New Delaval Primary School, BlythPupils from New Delaval Primary School presented WATBus with a cheque for £292.98 towards a new wheelchair accessible minibus.

Deputy Head Andrew Miller said: ''As part of our community education the children decided to help WATBus and organised sponsored circuits on the new assault course and a cake stall. It really was self raising.''

WATBus manager Lynn McIntosh said: ''This is fantastic support from the school. We are all inspired by the childrens ideas, generosity and community spirit. The cheque is the icing on the cake, so a big THANK YOU to everyone at the school, every penny really does count.''

Big Lottery Fund and ITV, with the approval of Buckingham Palace, are helping to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Jubilee People's Millions projects will inspire, involve or improve their local communities. If you've got an idea that could breathe life into your local area and improve the lives of the people who live there, why not apply for a grant of up to £60 000!

A Bedlingtonshire High School student raised £205 for charity.

Victoria Graham raised the cash for Autistica with a non-uniform day and a sponsored walk.

Pupils from Bedlingtonshire Community High School have raised over £800 for Macmillan Cancer Research.

Chelsea Mason, Melissa Evans, Laura Reed and Jessica Storey abseiled from the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough and also held a charity car wash in school.

Chelsea said: "We managed to raise over £800 between the six of us. Everyone was pretty nervous before the abseil this morning but once we got into it, it was brilliant. I'd definitely do it again."

A headteacher has told of the damage that will be done to his school after plans to replace its ageing buildings were cancelled by the Government.

Pupils from five of the county's schools got together to learn about finance through a day of mock share trading. Divided into teams, the pupils were given an imaginary £15,000 to spend on shares of their choice.

Lottery cash for Community Wildlife

Community Wildlife is for projects that help people discover, enjoy and protect wildlife in their local area.

Now open to organisations including voluntary and community organisations, schools, town and parish councils, and statutory health authorities. Grants of between £300 and £10,000 are available.

There is up to £2 million available across the UK and organisations can submit applications before the three deadlines of 21July, 22 September and the 24 November 2010.

Students at a Northumberland school are preparing to abseil an iconic North East bridge to raise cash for a leading health charity.

Bedlingtonshire Community High School sixth formers Chelsea Mason, Melissa Evans, Laura Reed and Jessica Storey will take on the hair-raising challenge at Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge on Sunday June 27.

Accompanied by Chelsea's father John Mason and ICT teacher Mark Taylor, they will be sponsored to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Research. The four students have already taken part in a fundraising car wash which raised £200 for the charity.
