A free heritage walk is taking place in Bedlington this weekend.

Organised by East Bedlington Parish Council, the walk takes in the former Iron Works site and Attlee Park, starting and finishing at the Bedlington Station Residents' Association Building and concluding with refreshments.

It takes place from 2pm- 3.30pm this Sunday (18th July).

All ages are welcome, as are dogs on leads. For further information, contact walk leader Barry Mead on 07986 018242 or 01670 861180.

Enterprising sixth formers showed their journalistic flair by launching their own magazine.

Sixth form students from Bedlingtonshire Community High School produced the first edition of their community magazine.

Banter, a magazine for students in the Bedlington community, goes on sale this week at the high school and in Bedlington shops.

A Bedlingtonshire High School student raised £205 for charity.

Victoria Graham raised the cash for Autistica with a non-uniform day and a sponsored walk.

Do you know a World War 2 veteran?

• Veterans are eligible as long as they saw active service in World War 2 and are resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland.

Pupils from Bedlingtonshire Community High School have raised over £800 for Macmillan Cancer Research.

Chelsea Mason, Melissa Evans, Laura Reed and Jessica Storey abseiled from the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough and also held a charity car wash in school.

Chelsea said: "We managed to raise over £800 between the six of us. Everyone was pretty nervous before the abseil this morning but once we got into it, it was brilliant. I'd definitely do it again."

Taxi driver assaulted in Bedlington

A taxi driver was taken to hospital after being attacked by two men.

The men turned on their driver after trying to avoid paying a fare.

The 28-year-old driver picked up the two men outside Toon Takeaway in Cloth Market, Newcastle, in the early hours of Friday morning.

They were picked up at 1.30am and asked to be taken to an address in Bedlington.

Corbridge enjoyed a last-ball victory over Bedlington to lift them out of the relegation placings in the Northumberland Premier League.

The Terriers showed plenty of bite as they notched up 203-5 in 50 overs, Paul Straker (60) and Graham Watson (60) setting the visitors' stall out with a century second-wicket partnership.

With the rain falling steadily the teams played on and Paul Newton (57) and Tristan Douglas (50) worked Corbridge into a position whereby the scores were tied with one ball of the match remaining.

Ian Lavery speaks out on police job cuts

Northumbria Police officers hunting alleged gunman Raoul Moat could lose their jobs because of Government cuts, a Labour MP has claimed.

Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery told the Commons that police were looking for Moat just 10 miles from where he lived and warned the Government against treating public sector workers as "statistics".

Round two of the Mark Williams Memorial Darts Tournament was hosted by Bedlington Station WMC.

Previous winners Phil Nixon and Glen Moody were among those seeking a finals-night spot.

However, it was Durham's Paul Knighton who starred on the night along with Forest Hall's Graeme Stoddart.

A headteacher has told of the damage that will be done to his school after plans to replace its ageing buildings were cancelled by the Government.

Bedlingtonshire Community High School in Northumberland had been earmarked for a complete rebuild paid through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

But following Monday's announcement by Education Secretary Michael Gove to scrap the scheme, 46 rebuilding contracts in the North East have been cancelled.
