Healthy history walks start in Bedlington
A healthy walk with history thrown in is on offer at Bedlington later this month.
Organised by Wansbeck District Council it will be the first of a series of weekly walks starting off from Bedlington Community Centre.
Wansbeck's community heritage officer Barry Mead, pictured, will lead the first walk that sets off from the centre on January 28 at 1pm.
Barry will follow a gentle route through Bedlington Country Park to Humford Mill, then along a riverside footpath to the former site of the Bedlington Iron and Engine Works.
With his renowned local knowledge, Barry is just the person to point out interesting snippets of information along the way, particularly how the old works played such an instrumental role in the birth of modern railways.
After the event on January 28, weekly walks led by a qualified walk leader will set off from the centre at the same time every Wednesday.
Wansbeck Council's Tom Lavender can be contacted for more information about the walks by telephoning him on (01670) 843442 or emailing him on t.lavender@wansbeck.gov.uk.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos
